Portuguese people were always travelers. Along the history, we navigated unexplored oceans, discovered new continents, and moved to distant countries. Today, we say there’s a portuguese on every corner of the world. And that’s probably true.
So it comes as no surprise to find more and more portuguese travel bloggers around the globe and the web. I’m sure you bumped into some of them already, but nevertheless here is my pick of the 10 most inspiring portuguese travel bloggers (that write in english) to follow in 2017.
João @ Nomad Revelations
João Leitão, from the adventure travel blog Nomad Revelations, doesn’t need any introduction. He’s been on the road since 1999, visited more than 126 countries in 7 continents, and is one of the world’s top travel bloggers.
Born in Lisbon but now based in Ouarzazate, Morocco, João is also a visual artist, aiming to inspire independent travelers and audacious backpackers with his intense journeys and exotic narratives.
If you like travel stories with a dose of adrenaline, you’re probably following this guy already. If you’re not, 2017 is definitely the year to start.
Hugo and Cristina @ Breathe With Us
From the small town of Aveiro, Portugal, where they met, to the big metropolis of London, where they currently live, Hugo and Cristina are the pair behind the blog Breathe With Us.
Passionate travelers with over 20 countries on their passports, this portuguese couple is on a quest to travel and explore the world’s best cultural and nature destinations, and inspire others to do the same.
Their blog is still a young project, but has already been featured in The New York Times and Lonely Planet, and is certainly worth following in 2017.
Sandra @ Tripper
I love Sandra’s story. In 2013, she left a job she hated to pursue her true passion. Today, she’s the writer, blogger, and storyteller behind Tripper, a blog about sustainable cultural travel to offbeat destinations.
An islander girl like me (she was also born in one of the most beautiful places on earth – the Azores), Sandra writes about travel, culture and the people and communities she meet in between.
She has contributed to National Geographic, Huffington Post and Lonely Planet, and is one of the most interesting portuguese travel bloggers to follow in 2017.
Zara @ Backpack ME
Zara, from Portugal, and Ashray, from India, met in Dubai and fell in love. This could be the beginning of another conventional love story. Except theirs is anything but conventional.
In 2011, Zara and Ashray quit their corporate jobs, sold all their stuff and took off to see the world. They’re traveling and inspiring others with their blog Backpack ME ever since.
This digital nomad couple has time traveled in Cuba, got engaged in Machu Picchu, learned how to surf in Costa Rica, swam with sharks in the Galapagos islands and eaten grasshoppers in Mexico, among many other exciting adventures.
Bruno @ Geeky Explorer
🇵🇭PHILIPPINES | 🐢Underwater. The underwater world of Philippines is unreal. There's hundreds of different species of tropical fish and corals. And 5 of the 7 species of sea turtles that exist worldwide can be spotted in Apo island alone! Swimming with them was a one of a kind experience 😍 #Philippines #itsmorefuninph #ApoIsland #turtle #underwaterphotography #gopro #snorkeling #ig_NeverStopExploring #WanderOut #Destination_Earth #Wonderful_Places #BeautifulMatters #Fantastic_Earth #TourThePlanet #TheGlobeWanderer #OurPlanetDaily #EarthPix #WeLiveToExplore #EarthOfficial #WildernessCulture #RoamThePlanet #ThePhotoSociety #TravelPhotography #Goph #the_ph #comeseeph #traversePhilippines #TravelStoriesPH #travel_philippines #ultimate_wanderlust
If you’re a digital geek always looking for the latest travel hacks and gadgets, Bruno is your guy.
No, he hasn’t quit his job, no, he didn’t sell all his belongings to travel the world, and no, he won’t grab about how many countries he’s been to. Bruno is a down to earth Portuguese blogger (also from the Azores!) living in Barcelona and learning how to travel smart in the real world.
On Geeky Explorer he shares his best tips and advice on the destinations he visits, so you can also travel smart. Plus, he has a great sense of humor!
Marlene @ Surfer Girl On The Move
Marlene is a journalist, a passionate writer, a traveler, a surfer, and a portuguese travel blogger from Ericeira.
When she’s not working, her incessant desire to travel and see the world takes her into new adventures, often with her surfboard under her arm.
On her blog Surfer Girl On The Move she shares stories, tips and advice about destinations, surf, food and culture. Definitely another Portuguese travel blogger to follow in 2017.
Sofia @ Sofia in Australia
Sofia is a Portuguese living in Australia with her Aussie husband, whom she met on the road, their one year old son, and Lucy, the family Land Rover.
Sofia in Australia, her travel and lifestyle blog, aims to inspire, intrigue and encourage readers around the world to travel further, longer and wider.
She shares her experiences and travel tips, along with stunning pictures of Australia and the world, that make hers one of the most beautiful blogs to follow in 2017.
Lara and Valter @ Heart of Everywhere
This photo is one of our memories from the night we stayed in a treehouse, in the Algarve. On the ground floor, lies this little wooden house. You can make a tea while you enjoy the serenity of nature by night. To read the full experience and see more photos of the treehouse, head to our blog. @glampinghub @visitportugal . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #visitportugal #discover_hotels #beautifulhotels #uniquehotels #DThotels #hotelsandresorts #LHWtraveler #myglampingstory #wowplanet #dametraveler #beautifuldestinations #girlsborntotravel #girlsmeetglobe #girlsvsglobe #soyviajera #girlaroundtheworld #girlslovetravel #igersportugal #featuremealgarve #wearetravelgirls #explorerbabes #fugadoviajante #bestdiscovery #passionpassport #blogmochilando #globalstorybook #schooloftravel #travelstoke #shooters_pt #travelsandchill
Heart of Everywhere is the youngest blog on this list, but one absolutely worth paying attention to in 2017.
Lara and Valter are a Portuguese young couple from Alentejo, passionate about travel and photography. They are constantly dreaming about faraway places and trying to find new and unique places to stay, like treehouses.
On their blog they share unique hidden gems in Portugal and throughout the world. And gorgeous images!
Gil @ Look Left
Look Left was born as an Erasmus blog. But after living in Germany, Greece and now Ireland, and traveling extensively around the world, his author Gil decided to turn it into a travel blog. And we’re glad that he did it!
Gil is a portuguese guy who works from 9 to 5 and, during the rest of the time, is addicted to traveling, whether it’s a weekend escape, a two weeks inter-rail or a long-term abroad experience.
For him, Look Left is essentially a big travel journal. For his readers, it’s a source of inspiration and travel advice.
Vanda @ The Yogi Wanderer
Of course I had to include The Yogi Wanderer on this list of portuguese travel bloggers to follow in 2017. Well, first, because it’s my blog. Second, because I really think you should follow it.
But let me introduce myself first: I’m Vanda, a journalist turned yoga teacher turned travel blogger. I was born in the Azores, studied and lived in Lisbon, and in June 2013 moved to Zurich, Switzerland, to follow my boyfriend and my own dreams: exploring the world and my true self.
Combining my passion for writing, traveling and self-discovery, The Yogi Wanderer is about the outer and inner journeys. Here you’ll find inspiration, stories and advice about living abroad, exploring the world, and the soul-searching lessons that arise from both.
