What to Expect From a 300 Hrs Yoga Teacher Training Online
Online 300 hour yoga teacher training programs are designed to deepen the knowledge and skills of yoga teachers.
They should be completed after taking a 200-hour yoga course to allow individuals to build on the knowledge, skills, and techniques they’ve already studied.
If you’ve taken a 200-hour yoga training course, the topics covered in an advanced course will sound familiar. This is because they are actually the same.
However, in the 300-hour course, students will examine each of these areas more deeply and build on the foundation they received during previous instruction.
Below are the five different categories included in 300h yoga teacher training programs:
- Yoga techniques, training, and practice (50 hours)
- Teaching methodology (5 hours)
- Anatomy and physiology (15 hours)
- Yoga philosophy, lifestyle, and ethics (30 hours)
- Practicum (30 hours)
If you did the math, you’ll notice that the minimum hourly requirements for each category above only add up to 130 hours. This still leaves 170 hours to meet 300 hours.
Each yoga teacher training program can decide how to best use these elective hours. Some may place a greater emphasis on teaching more specific yoga techniques or meditation practices, while others may spend more time on different teaching methodologies.
Since there are many more elective hours included in 300-hour courses (compared to the 15 hours included in a 200-hour course), you may notice greater variability between the different yoga schools you’re looking at.
Taking your time to really compare what each program offers can help ensure that the program you choose ends up being a good match for your needs and preferences.
How to Choose the Best 300-Hour Online Yoga Teacher Training for You
Before I dive into my selections for the best advanced online yoga teacher training courses, I want to take a moment to share some key criteria you can use to help you select the best yoga teacher training for you.
Some of the key considerations you should keep in mind when comparing courses include the yoga styles being taught, the characteristics of the school, the curriculum of each course, the certifications you’ll be eligible to receive, and of course the price.
Style
First, you need to consider the style of yoga being taught in each course. Some schools may only focus on one specific yoga style, while others may incorporate multiple styles.
If you are already more familiar with a particular style, such as Vinyasa, Hatha, Ashtanga, or Nidra, you may want to select a course that offers that style.
You should also think about the needs and desires of the individuals who will be seeking out your yoga courses and choose a style accordingly.
For example, if you’re planning to offer yoga courses for pregnant individuals, choosing a school that offers restorative or prenatal yoga teacher training may be a good choice.
School
Next, you’ll want to take a close look at each yoga school to get a feel for their teaching style and philosophy.
Remember that you’re not simply signing up for one yoga class. The school you choose will be responsible for helping transform you into your future yoga instructor-self, and you’ll be spending a lot of time working with them.
Visiting the school’s website, looking at what past students have shared about their experiences, and even calling to discuss the training program can help you make an informed decision.
Curriculum
As I shared above, 300-hour yoga training programs leave a lot of room for each school to customize its own curriculum.
Take a close look at how each school plans to allocate the additional 170 hours of electives and assess whether it matches your needs.
Certification
When looking for a 300-hour training program, be sure to check that you will be eligible to register as an RYT500 teacher with Yoga Alliance upon completion of the course.
Yoga Alliance has created standards that training schools must meet in order for their students to receive full certifications.
Due to the importance of Yoga Alliance in the yoga world, if you want to become a fully certified yoga instructor, you’ll want to verify this before signing up for a course.
All of the advanced programs outlined below meet the criteria laid out by Yoga Alliance.
Price
Finally, consider the price of each training program. Prices can vary considerably from one course to the next.
However, be sure to consider the content and layout of each program as well to make sure it will meet your needs rather than solely relying on the cost.
