Why Do a Yoga Retreat in Italy?
Why not do a retreat in Italy is probably the better question. There are so many reasons to choose Italy for your next yoga getaway.
Below are just a few of my top reasons to visit Italy and go on an Italian yoga holiday.
Food and Wine
If you want to rejuvenate your body as well as your taste buds, then Italy is the perfect location for your next yoga retreat. Italian food is absolutely delicious, and nearly everyone can find something they’ll enjoy.
While your mind probably goes right to pizza and pasta (which are definitely tasty), there is much more to Italian cuisine.
While in the country, you can enjoy fresh seafood dishes, meat and cheese platters, and so many other delicacies.
Gelato shops also abound in Italy, and no trip is complete without enjoying this delectable and cool treat.
If you enjoy fine wine, you also can’t go wrong with a trip to Italy. I suggest adding a few extra days before or after your yoga retreat to visit some local vineyards.
Landscapes and Scenery
From the romantic countryside to gorgeous coastal cities and majestic mountains, Italy has it all.
Participating in a yoga retreat anywhere in Italy pretty much guarantees you’ll be able to practice yoga with a truly spectacular view.
History and Sightseeing
I can’t write about reasons to visit Italy without including the country’s rich history. If you want to view ancient ruins, artistic masterpieces, famous cities, or even the Vatican, you will definitely be spoiled for choice.
Best Time to Go on a Yoga Retreat in Italy
Spring and fall are generally viewed as the best times to travel to Italy. During these seasons, the temperatures are warmer (typically between 55 and 80 degrees), but not overly hot that you’ll be uncomfortable.
If you travel before Easter or after August, you’ll likely be able to find less expensive flights too.
Summer can also be a pleasant time to visit Italy but be prepared for hot temperatures. During the heat of the day, temperatures in July or August may reach up to 88 degrees.
Summer is also generally a busier and more expensive time to travel, and some local businesses may be closed as many Italians are on holiday.
You shouldn’t rule out visiting Italy in the Winter, either. While you will likely find much colder temperatures and even some snow if you choose a mountain retreat, if you opt for a retreat in Southern Italy the temperature will be much milder.
I’m lucky enough to have visited Italy in every season of the year and always had a really special time here.

Attending a Yoga Retreat in Italy? Don’t Forget Travel Insurance!
As with any other kind of physical activity, joining a yoga retreat is not without its risks. While yoga is generally safe, accidents and injuries can happen anywhere and, if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to be prepared for the worst, especially when you’re in a foreign country.
That’s why travel insurance is so important and you should never leave home without it! I use and recommend SafetyWing travel medical insurance for travelers, remote workers, and nomads.
They cover overseas medical assistance in case of accident or illness, a wide range of sports and activities including yoga, travel delay or interruption, lost checked luggage, emergency medical or political evacuation, natural disasters, and personal liability, at very competitive prices.
