Why do a Yoga Retreat in Arizona?
So, why should you plan to go to Arizona for your next yoga retreat?
There is an abundance of reasons why you might want to pack up and head to the desert of Arizona for your next retreat, but I’ll share more about my top three reasons: location, scenery, and energy vortexes.
Location
Yoga in Arizona is easily accessible from across the United States (and even abroad).
There are a few major airports in the state, including Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Tucson Airport.
From these airports, won’t have to travel more than a few hours to reach some of the most popular destinations in the state.
Scenery
One of the many benefits of choosing yoga and wellness retreats in Arizona is the scenery.
Every morning, you’ll wake up surrounded by such splendor, regardless of which part of the state you choose for your retreat.
From the magnificent beauty of the Grand Canyon to the towering red rocks of Sedona or Monument Valley, from the magical Antelope Canyon to the impressive Horseshoe Bend in Page, and everything in between, you’ll be in awe at all the wonders surrounding you.
While Arizona is mostly desert, there are also areas of the state where you can find waterfalls, lush greenery, lakes, and more.
Energy Vortexes
Many yoga and health retreats in Arizona take place in Sedona. Yoga retreats in Sedona benefit from the energy forces found in the red rocks.
If you’re not familiar with what a vortex is, it is a center of energy that enhances meditation, healing, self-exploration, and overall health.
Obviously, for those looking to recenter themselves or connect with nature, scheduling a yoga retreat near an energy vortex can be a very powerful experience.
Those who leave one of the many Sedona yoga retreats often point to the additional healing and re-energizing power they experienced after their retreat.
The entire area of Sedona is considered an energy vortex. However, within this area, there are four more famous and particularly powerful vortexes located at Boynton Canyon, Airport Mesa, Cathedral Rock, and Bell Rock.
Best Places to Go on a Yoga Holiday in Arizona
While you may be able to find yoga retreats throughout the state of Arizona, the two most popular locations are Sedona and the Grand Canyon.
In addition to its energy vortexes, there are many other reasons you’ll want to consider a retreat in Sedona.
Sedona is known for its gorgeous red rock formations. Watching the sunset with the beautiful landscape behind it is pretty awe-inspiring.
It also offers many hiking and biking trails, shops and art galleries, mild temperatures, and more.
Everyone’s seen pictures of the Grand Canyon, but if you haven’t experienced it in person, I’d highly recommend it. The pictures just don’t do justice to the majestic views, deep canyons, and colorful formations.
A yoga retreat at the Grand Canyon can really help you put everything into perspective and focus on what is most important in life.
Best Time to Go on an Arizona Yoga Retreat
While you could travel to Arizona any time of the year and expect to find warm and sunny weather, you may want to avoid visiting during the heat of the summer.
Overall, spring and fall are the best times to travel to Arizona. During these months, the temperatures should be a bit cooler and more comfortable, without being scorching hot as you may find during the summer.
Depending on the area, rain and snowfall should also be more moderate and less of a concern.
If you decide to visit Arizona during the heat of the summer (between June and August), be prepared for hot and muggy temperatures. Also, expect more crowds, particularly around the Grand Canyon and other touristy locations.
Flooding or dust storms can also occur during these months.

Attending a Yoga Retreat in Arizona? Don’t Forget Travel Insurance!
As with any other kind of physical activity, joining a yoga retreat is not without its risks. While yoga is generally safe, accidents and injuries can happen anywhere and, if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to be prepared for the worst, especially when you’re in a foreign country.
That’s why travel insurance is so important and you should never leave home without it! I use and recommend SafetyWing travel medical insurance for travelers, remote workers, and nomads.
They cover overseas medical assistance in case of accident or illness, a wide range of sports and activities including yoga, travel delay or interruption, lost checked luggage, emergency medical or political evacuation, natural disasters, and personal liability, at very competitive prices.
