Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle, UK
Recommended by Francesca from Travel Heal Love
Northern Ireland has got some of the best Europe spa hotels. I have lived there for more than 7 years and I have visited many of them, but the one that really captured me was Slieve Donard. It is located in Newcastle, on the east coast of Ireland’s Island, at about 45 minutes by car from Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland.
The building is on top of a hill that faces the sea. Most of the areas in the hotel have got big windows from where you can admire the waves lapping the shore. The area around is very peaceful and you can benefit from a calming atmosphere that will help you unwind from the daily stresses.
This hotel has got a big common pool for both male and female guests, with a bar beside it where to enjoy a cocktail or a juice. Also, it has got private areas for male and female guests only. Each area has got a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room, and a relaxing room with flavored waters, healthy snacks, and chromotherapy.
At Slieve Donard, you can also choose from a variety of wellness treatments like deep tissue massages, hot stones massages, facials, and reflexology. They all last for about 90 minutes and are unbelievable!
If you are visiting this spa resort in Europe for a special event, make sure to let them know and you will have included in the price a glass of wine from the bar, some complimentary sweets in your room and you may even receive an upgrade for your room. For example, I went for my birthday and we were upgraded to a Suite with a sea view. Simply wonderful!

One of the all-time top spa hotels in Europe has to be the Corinthia Hotel in London. Beautifully nestled into one of central London’s most opulent areas, it offers the most lavish spa experience in the city!
The Corinthia Hotel is a grand Belle Époque style building with views overlooking the River Thames. The closest tube station is Embankment on the river’s edge.
The spa however is a hidden gem on the lower levels of the hotel. Visiting for a friend’s birthday they offer enticing day packages and weekend breaks which shouldn’t be missed!

Rigi Kaltbad Hotel, Switzerland
Recommended by Claudia from Claudia Travels
Spa resorts in Switzerland are renowned for their healing properties, and the Rigi Kaltbad Hotel & Spa in Lucerne is no exception. Surrounded by spectacular Swiss hiking trails and mountain landscapes, Rigi Kaltbad makes for a wonderful spa break.
It has been a wellness destination for 600 years; the first bath chapel was built in 1545. While at that time people bathed in cold water (kaltbad means cold bath), today’s spa has a variety of warm and cold pools that modern spa enthusiasts love.
In 2012, Swiss architect Mario Botta re-envisioned the spa and designed a new Kaltbad experience that includes unique stone and curved glass wall features and an incredible outdoor bath area with full panoramic views of the stunning Swiss Alps and Lake Lucerne.
In addition to the outdoor bathing pools, the Rigi Kaltbad includes a large indoor spa area, herbal steam bath, Finnish herbal sauna (no bathing textiles), spa lounge with facial and massage treatments. A highlight is the Crystal Spa, where one relaxes in a flooded spa room in the warm water, looking up at 3-meter-high crystals that line the square above.
The spa is reserved exclusively for guests of the Hotel Rigi Kaltbad, which is connected to the spa, between 8-10 AM every day.
To get to Rigi Kaltbad Hotel, depart by boat from Lucerne and board the Vitznau-Rigi cable car station in Vitznau. There is also a cable car from Weggis to the hotel and spa.

Manoir de Lebioles, Spa, Belgium
Recommended by Caroline from veggiewayfarer.com
Located deep in the forested Ardennes of Belgium lies a true hidden gem, an old manor built at the beginning of the 20th century by a Belgian Diplomat, who sadly was not able to enjoy the manor as he died shortly after completion.
Over the years the manor changed hands multiple times, from a wealthy businessman to the Belgian State and finally a family of hoteliers. To the locals, this beautiful place in Belgium is fondly referred to as “Little Versaille.
The manor is located 5 kilometers from Spa, the region in Belgium that is known for – you might have guessed it – its mineral-rich thermal waters and wealth of spas. Manoir de Lebioles is a little off the beaten path, therefore a car is needed to reach it. The hotel offers a pick-up service from the airport upon request.
Aside from the castle-like exterior and grounds, the inside of the castle, as well as the facilities, are well worth a mention. The manor houses 16 beautifully decorated rooms, a renowned gastronomic restaurant, and of course a state-of-the-art spa.
Spa facilities include steam rooms, an aromatherapy shower, a sauna, an ice fountain, and an indoor pool. A host of different massages are on offer, these need to be booked in advance of your visit.

Cristallo Resort & Spa, Dolomites, Italy
Recommended by Morgan from Crave the Planet
The mighty Dolomites combine luxury and adventure like no other spa breaks in Italy. You can experience breathtaking hiking in the Dolomites in summer or skiing in winter combined with out-of-this-world luxury at the Cristallo Resort & Spa in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Built in 1901, this historic hotel offers live piano music each night, mountain peak views with cold Prosecco awaiting your arrival, luxurious bedding, large & quiet rooms, and a breakfast buffet service that is worthy of royalty.
Most importantly, the spa area not only features your typical pool, hot tub, exercise room, massage, facials, etc., but it has a sauna experience that you’ll never forget. You’ll want to start with the shower procession which includes aromatherapy and water stations as you walk through.
Then you can take a Finnish-style sauna where the attendant will bring in essential oil-infused ice cubes to place on the hot rocks. Then he will flip a towel around to bring the scents and humidity to all parts of the sauna.
When you’re really warm and need a break, walk to the Asian-style garden just outside the sauna, and take a full-body dip in the barrel of icy water for some excellent contrast therapy.
Getting a good night’s rest is the foundation for every great adventure and Cristallo Spa Hotel leaves out no detail.
Things to do in Cortina d’Ampezzo in summer directly from the Cristallo Spa Hotel include world-class day hiking and hut-to-hut hiking at elevation. The hotel also has free mountain bike rentals.
In winter, there is a ski lift only ½ mile from the doorstep to the Dolomiti Superski area which is the largest in the world with 1200 kilometers of slopes.

Ensana Nove Lazne, Marianske Lazne, Czech Republic
Recommended by Joanna from The World in My Pocket
Nove Lazne is the most prestigious spa hotel in Marianske Lazne, a beautiful spa town in Europe and one of the Czech Republic’s three spa towns included on Unesco’s heritage list.
If you are planning to go to the spa in the Czech Republic, then you should choose Nove Lazne as your preferred hotel.
Marianske Lazne has been a spa destination for European royalty and artists searching for healing mineral waters, for a long time. One of the most famous guests of the Nove Lazne hotel was King Edward VII who was a regular client here. He used to have his own cabin and even his own chair, which today can be seen on the ground floor of the hotel, on request.

Upper House, Gothenburg, Sweden
Recommended by Raluca from Travel With A Spin
Gone are the days of luxury spas that offer top-notch treatment in boring settings. Upper House Hotel invites its guests to enjoy a stay and a spa session halfway to heaven. All they have to do is unwind and enjoy the experience.
The hotel set in Gothia Towers, in the modern region of Gothenburg, offers beautifully decorated rooms and suites with all the facilities included, as well as a restaurant and a bar with great views.
But the highlight of Upper House is its spa and wellness center. Guests of the hotel have the entrance included in the price of the room. If you’re not a guest, you can still check for availability and book by email for a moderate fee.
Several indoor warm water pools, jacuzzis, sensorial showers, Turkish steam baths, and Finnish sauna await you. But the best part of the spa is the outdoor warm pool on the 17th floor with glass bottom and walls.
As everywhere in the spa, you get impressive views over Liseberg Amusement Park, but this time also over the world below. You might be a little scared at first, even if you’re not usually afraid of heights. If this is the case, try to go when the jacuzzi is on. This way, you won’t see what’s under you until it stops and you’re already there to enjoy the view.
The warm water and the saunas might make you thirsty. Don’t worry though! While you’re there, you have free access to tea, coffee, water, juice, dried fruits, and nuts to hydrate and remineralize your body.
For an enriched wellness session, you can also buy a treatment pack from the reception. All the products are made from local ingredients and instructions on how and where to use them for best results are provided.

Hotel Gellert, Budapest, Hungary
Recommended by James from Travel Collecting
Gellert Hotel and Spa is located on the banks of the Danube River in central Budapest, on the Pest side of the river, next to the Szabadsag Hid (Liberty Bridge).
The gorgeous Art Nouveau Gellert Hotel, originally called the Saint Gellert Hotel, dates from 1918 and was restored to its original splendor after being damaged in WWII.
It is most famous for the Gellert Baths, which are highly decorated with tile work, statues, and ornate details and make it one of the best thermal spa hotels in Europe.
The spa is fed by underground springs from the nearby Gellert hills and has been around for over 100 years. You can soak in indoor mineral baths of different temperatures, get spa treatments and massages, and do laps in the indoor or outdoor pool.
It used to be divided into separate men’s and women’s sections, but these days it is mixed gender, and swimwear is worn at all times.
There are four spring-fed thermal baths. Two are at 97°F/ 36°C and the other two are 104°F/ 40°C. They are beautiful places to hang out and relax.
