The Hellenic Republic offers some of the most peaceful and serene settings on the continent, making it ideal for a spiritual retreat.
It’s also one of my favorite countries in Europe and, fun fact, it was my first-ever solo trip destination back in 2015, when I first visited Athens and the island of Aegina. I then went back to Athens, Katakolon, and Mykonos in 2016.

Why do a yoga retreat in Greece?
There is a multitude of reasons to consider Greece when searching for the right location for your next yoga retreat.
Weather
Greece offers beautiful weather for visitors to enjoy. When you travel during the spring and summer months, you can expect to see a lot of sunshine and enjoy warm temperatures.
These conditions will make your yoga retreat even more enjoyable and enable you to spend a lot of rejuvenating time outdoors.
Islands and Beaches
Combine the gorgeous weather of Greece with the stunning islands and beaches located close to many of the yoga retreats, and you’re basically in paradise.
Before or after your retreat, you can schedule some time to relax on one of the breathtaking Greek beaches and islands. Many yoga retreats in Greece are even located in close proximity to a beach and may feature outdoor yoga sessions on the sand.
Believe me, yoga in Greece can be even better when you get to do it by the sea!
Food
When you’re going to a yoga retreat, you want to truly enjoy and nourish yourself. What better way to ensure you have a good time than by choosing an area known for its fine cuisine?
This is certainly the case with Greece. The Mediterranean diet is well-known for its health benefits and high nutrient content.
Enjoy some traditional Greek foods, such as gyros, souvlaki, moussaka, and a variety of delectable seafood dishes.
If you enjoy fine wine, wineries are abundant on the Greek islands too, so you’re sure to find something that will suit your palate.
Culture
Greece’s history goes back centuries. Whether you’re a history buff or just like learning about ancient cultures, visiting Greece is a must.
Depending on where your yoga retreat takes you, consider carving some time out of your trip to visit the Acropolis of Athens and the Pantheon, Katakolon and Ancient Olympia, or one of the other numerous historical sites.
Cost
Finally, Greece is a very affordable country to visit. When you step away from the luxury yoga resorts, you’ll find that food and lodging are quite reasonable compared to many other European yoga retreats.
As far as the cost of the yoga retreat itself, you’ll find a variety of options to suit nearly any budget. Many may also include the majority of your meals during your stay, helping you save even more money.
Best Time to Go on a Greek Yoga Retreat
May to September is generally the best time to travel to Greece. During the spring and summer months, you’re likely to enjoy the best weather. These months will provide you with abundant sunshine and warm temperatures.
However, visiting in the autumn can also be nice. The weather will be a little cooler, but still likely enjoyable.
And if you’re looking to travel to the island of Crete, you’ll still find quite warm weather during September and October.

Attending a Yoga Retreat in Greece? Don’t Forget Travel Insurance!
As with any other kind of physical activity, joining a yoga retreat is not without its risks. While yoga is generally safe, accidents and injuries can happen anywhere and, if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to be prepared for the worst, especially when you’re in a foreign country.
That’s why travel insurance is so important and you should never leave home without it! I use and recommend SafetyWing travel medical insurance for travelers, remote workers, and nomads.
They cover overseas medical assistance in case of accident or illness, a wide range of sports and activities including yoga, travel delay or interruption, lost checked luggage, emergency medical or political evacuation, natural disasters, and personal liability, at very competitive prices.
