Why Do a Yoga Retreat in Hawaii?
The reasons to consider yoga in Hawaii abound. Let’s look at some of the top reasons to plan your next yoga vacation in Hawaii and what makes it one of the best yoga destinations in the USA.
Spiritual Sites
If you’re at all familiar with the islands and their history, you may already know about the different sacred sites filled with spiritual energy. Long ago at these sites, Hawaiian forged spiritual connections.
These six spiritual sites in Hawaii, that you may choose to visit before or after your retreat, include Puu Loa Petroglyphs, Puuhona o Honaunau National Historic Park, Hikiau Heiau, Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site, Keahiakawelo, and Kukaniloko Birthstones.
Hawaiian Culture
Visiting Hawaii can give you a much-needed break from the daily hustle and bustle.
The Hawaiian people are an amazing group with a very positive and welcoming spirit. They believe in holding celebrations and festivals featuring dancing, music, and delicious food.
If you have time to extend your stay and attend a traditional Hawaiian luau, the experience will certainly be worth it.
Surf and Sand
You can’t talk about the reasons to visit Hawaii without mentioning its stunning sandy beaches.
You’ll always be in close proximity to the beach, if you want to head over to do yoga on the beach, take a quick dip, relax on the sand, or try your hand at snorkeling or surfing.
You can even find a few yoga and surf retreats in Hawaii if you’d like to combine the best of both worlds.
Scenery
While there is no questioning the beauty of the beaches in Hawaii, they only tell part of the story of the island’s scenery.
Drive a little away from the beach, and you can find mountains, caves, tropic rainforests, and stunning waterfalls.
And with all the moisture and humidity in the air, you’re likely to see some magnificent rainbows during your stay in the Aloha State.
Location
The islands of Hawaii are relatively easy to get to from many areas of the world.
If you’re in the United States, fly into Los Angeles, Denver, Las Vegas, New York City, San Francisco, and other major hubs, and you can catch a direct flight to Hawaii.
Travels from other parts of the world could also fly into one of these cities, or they could also find direct flights from Japan, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada.
Best Places to Go on a Yoga Holiday in Hawaii
When you’re planning a yoga holiday in Hawaii, there really is no bad place to visit.
There are eight Hawaiian Islands: Hawaii Island (the Big Island), Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Lanai, Molokai, Niihau, and Kahoolawe, though visitors are not permitted on Niihau and Kahoolawe.
Maui, the Big Island, and Oahu are probably the most popular destinations for a yoga retreat. You’ll find more Hawaii retreat centers on these islands and will enjoy a greater selection of yoga holidays.
Best Time to Go on a Hawaii Yoga Retreat
The best time to visit Hawaii is right now!
But, in all seriousness, the islands enjoy generally pleasant weather all year.
The average highs during the winter are between 78- and 82-degrees Fahrenheit, with the summer months being a touch warmer with average temperatures between 83- and 88-degrees Fahrenheit.
April, May, September, and October are often viewed as the ‘best’ time to visit the islands, but as mentioned above, there really isn’t a bad time to go to Hawaii.
On the windward (north and northeast) shores of the Hawaiian Islands, the surf can be a bit strong during the winter. If you’re an experienced surfer, though, the winter months may be the best time for you to plan your stay.

Attending a Yoga Retreat in Hawaii? Don’t Forget Travel Insurance!
As with any other kind of physical activity, joining a yoga retreat is not without its risks. While yoga is generally safe, accidents and injuries can happen anywhere and, if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to be prepared for the worst, especially when you’re in a foreign country.
That’s why travel insurance is so important and you should never leave home without it! I use and recommend SafetyWing travel medical insurance for travelers, remote workers, and nomads.
They cover overseas medical assistance in case of accident or illness, a wide range of sports and activities including yoga, travel delay or interruption, lost checked luggage, emergency medical or political evacuation, natural disasters, and personal liability, at very competitive prices.
