I loved the time I spent in Chiang Mai during my two-week Thailand vacation last July. And a big reason for that was Rich Lanna House. I felt so comfortable and pampered here that I didn’t want to leave. Like ever.

Welcome to Rich Lanna House, Chiang Mai
Rich Lanna House, Chiang Mai, is a small boutique hotel located in the old city, close to the north gate and all the action – Buddhist temples, restaurants, cafes, markets, and nightlife are all just a short walk away.
I like staying in small local-run hotels where I can be sure my money is benefiting the local community, instead of choosing big international hotel chains whose profits will go to headquarters somewhere else. Besides small boutique hotels offer a much more unique and genuine experience. And Rich Lanna House was no exception.
The hotel is a classic Lanna House and all its 14 rooms and common areas are carefully and beautifully decorated in Lanna-Colonial style, with teakwood furniture and fittings.
Our huge Lanna Deluxe Room was stunning and super cozy – I’ve slept like a baby in its king size bed!
I was particularly pleased with our reading area with some guides and books about Chiang Mai and its Lanna heritage, and our big en-suite bathroom with both shower and bathtub.
The only thing I didn’t like in the room was that there was only a little window that didn’t open and with no blackout curtains.
Of course, Rich Lanna House, Chiang Mai, also offers all the modern amenities you can expect in a nice hotel: AC, free wi-fi in all the rooms, flat tv with 14 satellite channels (that we’ve never watched because there’s so much to see and do in Chiang Mai!), in-room safety box, mini bar, complimentary tea and coffee, hairdryer, and complimentary toiletries.
All rooms also include bathrobe and slippers, but we couldn’t find our bathrobes anywhere.
Another highlight of Rich Lanna House is its big, mouth-watering breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of the delicious food (since I was too busy eating it!) but I promise you won’t be hungry after this breakfast.
From Thai noodles to English scones, from a selection of bread, pastries and cakes, to a variety of eggs, fresh fruits, jams, cheese, cereals, juice fruits, milk and coffee, including pancakes or French toasts a la minute, this was by far the best breakfast buffet we’ve seen in Thailand.
On our last day at Rich Lanna House, Chiang Mai, we had to leave for the airport very early in the morning, but they were so kind as to let us eat before breakfast time. So, when I say you won’t be hungry at Rich Lanna House, I truly mean it.
Speaking of food, Rich Lanna House coffee shop, the Rich Coffee House, right next door, is the perfect place to stop for a coffee or a tea, and a homemade cake, after a day touring Chiang Mai. I loved the chilly vibe and decoration almost as much as their divine chocolate cake.
Last but not least, my absolute favorite thing about Rich Lanna House was the lovely pool area. This little corner of paradise right in the center of Chiang Mai really made our stay so much nicer.
The salt-water swimming pool was just what we needed to cool down after our days exploring the city, and its beautifully decorated area the perfect place to relax and escape from the heat.

We couldn’t believe it either, especially when we’ve stayed in not so nice and more expensive hotels during our two-week vacation in Thailand.
But it’s true. Rich Lanna House is a budget hotel with all the charm and superb service of a boutique hotel, without ever feeling cheap.
The only thing we found expensive was the laundry service, which was per piece and not per kilo as in the other places we’ve stayed, so we ended up not using it here.
Staying at Rich Lanna House, Chiang Mai, was one of the highlights of my first trip to Thailand, and I’m sure I’ll be back.
If you’re looking for where to stay in Chiang Mai, Rich Lanna House is your best choice. Like Chiang Mai itself, Rich Lanna House is an unpretentious gem, with a friendly atmosphere and an authentic soul that make it hard to forget.

I agree.. boutique hotels have a lovely charm, and I’ve stayed in a few in India, which were worth every rupee. This hotel looks like a gem! Those prices are ridiculously good, and the pool looks so inviting!
