Wondering where to stay in Budapest? Welcome to Mamaison Hotel Andrassy, the best place to stay in Budapest if you’re looking for a beautiful and central location, first-class service and comfort with the homy feeling of a boutique hotel, and great value for money.
Too good to be true? Well, I can guarantee you that this place actually exists! And believe me when I tell you I’ve had my share of disappointing hotel experiences (Paris, I’m looking at you).
Fortunately, that was not the case here at all. We’ve spent three nights at Mamaison Hotel Andrassy during our recent trip to Budapest and everything was just perfect. From the moment we checked-in to our sad goodbye, we felt friendly welcome, super comfortable and pampered to all our needs.
Perfect location at Andrassy Avenue
But first things first.
As you and I both know, location is one of the most important things to consider when choosing a hotel. Ideally, you want to stay close to all the action but in a quiet and nice area.
Mamaison Hotel Andrassy’s superb location at Andrassy Avenue offers you all of that and much more.
Considered the Hungarian Champs-Élysées, Andrassy Avenue is one of the most elegant avenues in Budapest. This beautiful tree-lined boulevard stretches along 2,5 km, from Erzsebet Square to Heroes’ Square and the City Park.
Dating back to 1872, Andrassy Avenue is classified as a World Heritage Site due to its spectacular neo-renaissance architecture. Today the palaces, mansions, and villas house embassies, luxury boutiques, art galleries, theatres, restaurants, and cafes.
Surrounded by greenery and fine architecture, Mamaison Hotel Andrassy is just a short 5-minute walk from Heroes’ Square, my favorite square in Budapest, and the City Park, and a 10-minute walk from the famous Szechenyi Baths. The Hungarian State Opera House and the Pest Broadway, Budapest’s theatre district, are other top attractions in Andrassy Avenue.
For me, this was the best location to stay in Budapest. I simply loved waking up and strolling along this pleasant avenue, admiring the magnificent buildings hidden under the trees’ shade, and sitting in one of the many sidewalk cafes for some people watching.
Mamaison Hotel Andrassy is also conveniently located just a 2-minute walk from a metro and bus station, making it very easy to get to and from anywhere in Budapest.
Fun fact: The metro line running underneath Andrassy Avenue was the first underground railway in all continental Europe and is part of Andrassy Avenue World Heritage Site. There’s no underground communication between the two sides, so make sure you know in which direction you’re heading before going down.
An upscale boutique hotel
Do you know that feeling when you arrive in a new place and immediately feel at home? Well, that’s what happened to me in Budapest, starting by Mamaison Hotel Andrassy.
Mamaison Andrassy offers all the amenities of a 4-star hotel with that personal touch you only get in a boutique hotel.
The reception staff was very professional and welcoming, and always willing to go above and beyond to accommodate our every request with a friendly smile. From giving us useful tips about Budapest to lending a Spa accessorize bag for our visit to the thermal baths, and storing our luggage after our check-out, we have zero complaints.
The hotel itself is a Bauhaus building, wonderfully decorated with the elegance and simplicity of that style.
Besides 61 rooms and 7 suites, it has 4 meeting rooms with capacity to up to 80 people, a lobby area with a business corner, a restaurant and lounge with terrace, and secured parking. Guests can also use the gym & sauna at the nearby sister hotel Mamaison Residence Izabella Budapest.
Mamaison Hotel Andrassy also offers free Wi-Fi in all the common areas and rooms and, contrary to some hotels where I’ve stayed before, the Wi-Fi here really works fast and without interruptions.
Of course, you can also expect all the usual comforts of a 4-star hotel, like room service, airport shuttle (at an extra cost), and concierge services.
Our room at Mamaison Hotel Andrassy
We stayed in a lovely and spacious deluxe room on the 4th floor, with a superb city view from our private balcony.
But my favorite thing about the room was the luxury double bed, which was not only gorgeous but also super comfy. Add to that, the silence and the blackout curtains (I don’t know about you, but that’s a must for me!) and I’ve slept like a baby.
In fact, with 35 square meters, toilet with bathtub and complimentary toiletries, satellite TV, minibar, AC and safe box, reading nook, work desk and great Wi-Fi, I could live here and spend my days exploring and blogging about stunning Budapest.
And did I mention that our room came with a smartphone, with free Internet and local calls, that we could take with us anywhere to help us navigate the city? How cool is that!
Breakfast at La Perle Noire
Breakfast is served at La Perle Noire, the hotel’s restaurant and lounge, and consists of a delicious gourmet buffet.
From a selection of bread and pastry to a variety of eggs, sausages, bacon, and sweet beans, from fresh fruit to a choice of cereals, yogurts, cheese, and jam… you name it and it’s probably there.
They even have warm French crepes filled with jam, that I may or may not have stuffed myself with while traveling back in time to my childhood.
Not forgetting the assortment of drinks: from coffee, tea, and milk, to fruit juices (juices were not fresh though, and that’s probably the only thing I would change in an otherwise perfect start of the day).
I was so busy eating all the delicious food that I ended up not taking many photos of it, but you can take my word for it: you won’t lack the energy to discover Budapest after this breakfast.
La Perle Noir Restaurant & Lounge also serves lunch and dinner à la carte, specializing in Hungarian and French cuisine.
Plus, its cozy summer terrace is a great place to grab a drink and relax at any time of the day.
We didn’t eat at La Perle Noir except for breakfast, but we did enjoy a complimentary welcome smoothie that was just what we needed after a busy day of sightseeing.
Prices at Mamaison Hotel Andrassy
Last but not least, let’s talk prices.
But worry not. If like me, you value comfort but also your wallet, this affordable luxury hotel is the right choice for you.
Mamaison Hotel Andrassy offers great value for money, with rates starting at €76 on their website. I know, I know. I couldn’t believe it either.
I had such a great stay at Mamaison Hotel Andrassy that I’m sure I’ll be back if I ever visit Budapest again. This gem of a hotel was the perfect base to explore the queen of the Danube and one of the highlights of our trip.
If you’re looking for where to stay in Budapest, look no further than Mamaison Hotel Andrassy. Location, comfort, elegance, service, food, and price – this upscale boutique hotel ticks all the boxes for the best place to stay in Budapest.
*I was offered a complimentary stay at Mamaison Hotel Andrassy Budapest for 2 nights and a media rate for the 3rd night in exchange for an honest review. As always, all opinions are my own.
